Is this course for me?
Who is this course for?
Pole Fundamentals is designed specifically for complete beginners. You don't need any prior experience in pole, dance or anything else, and you certainly don't need to hit the gym before starting the course! We will meet you where you're at and you'll see your strength, flexibility, confidence and skills grow week on week. Each class will have a whole-group focus, with easier and more challenging options included to suit everyone. Our bodies, experience and preferences are all different, so a one-size-fits-all approach is off the cards. You'll be given just enough for the classes to be a challenge, and still lots of fun! Pole Fundamentals can also be a lovely way back in to pole if you've had a long break and want to brush up on the basics again. We welcome people of all genders over the age of 18. There are a few medical conditions or injuries which may require you to seek medical advice before starting, you can find more info about these in our waiver or by emailing shona@provocafit.co.uk. Unfortunately our studio is not wheelchair accessible.
Why should I start pole?
So often we hear from our clients that pole, and the community that comes with it, is unlike any other fitness activity they've tried before. It's fun, exciting, challenging, inclusive, friendly, supportive, hilarious, demanding, inspiring, joyful and hilarious in equal measure. It's a great activity for improving your overall fitness, as well as growing your confidence and social circle to match!
What does the course include?
You'll get 12 weekly pole classes (60mins long) where you'll learn all of your foundational skills. You'll also get a little halfway-gift at week 6, a certificate to celebrate your achievements on completion, AND a graduate discount for any of our memberships so you can continue poling after the course has finished!
What are the payment options?
We have two payment options! 1) Pay £120 in full upon booking 3) Pay in 3. Split the cost of the course over 3x £40 payments (deadline applies). It's worth knowing that if you choose to split in 3, all payments are due even if you decide not to finish the course. Please click here to book using the payment plan: https://goteamup.com/p/9227231-provocafit-ltd/memberships/219150/
What if I can't make all of the dates?
We know that life happens sometimes, this isn't a problem! You can just jump back in on the following week. If you're super keen to stay up to date, you can book a discounted 1-2-1 with Shona (course leader) to catch up on what you missed.
I'm not sure a course is for me, can I take drop-ins instead?
Our Pole Fundamentals Course is, we believe, the best route in to pole if you're serous about starting and want to make a real change for yourself for the better. That being said, we know that courses aren't practical for lots of our clients! We also offer drop-in classes which are suitable for beginners (Pole Syllabus: Levels 1-2). These classes are a mix of abilities from new starters up to polers who have been taking classes for a number of months, all working on upright poses and spins of varying difficulty. You'll still have options given to you that are level-appropriate, don't worry! These classes are booked on a drop in basis, either PAYG (£12 each) or using one of our recurring memberships.
More Questions?
Do you allow men into your classes?
We welcome people of all genders into our classes who feel they align with our values.
How big are your classes?
We're on the smaller side as a studio! We have 5 poles and a maximum class capacity of 10 people, plus your instructor(s). This means you'll only ever share a pole with up to one other person throughout your course.
Do you have parking?
We have no private parking, but there is plenty of on-street parking surrounding the studio. Your best bet is usually Clarence Street, Bishop Street or Bromhead Street, all of which are 1-2 minutes' walk from the studio door. Most parking is unresricted after 6pm, with 1-2 hours free before this, but please always check for restrictions before leaving your car!
What should I bring and wear?
For a pole class you will usually need to wear shorts and a short sleeved top/tank top. This is because we use our skin to grip the pole in many moves, and if you have clothing on top of your grip areas you'll slide right down! For your first couple of classes you'll be okay in leggings or joggers if you prefer. You'll also need to bring a bottle of water and a cloth or hand towel (for wiping the pole, and your hands!).
Can I wear heels for this course?
Our Pole Fundamentals course is taken without heels - you'll need either bare feet or socks. We do love our heels though, and no doubt you'll be itching to get to one of our heels classes after your course has finished - Keep an eye out for our Heels Fundamentals course next!
Can I bring anyone with me whilst i take the class?
For the safety and comfort of everyone taking our classes, we don't allow any spectators or non-attendees to wait whilst you take your class. This includes partners, friends and children. The only exception to this would be if a client requires a chaperone - in this instance please email shona@provocafit.co.uk to discuss.
Still not sure?
We get it - starting something new can be daunting! Read what our previous clients have to say and see if that eases your worries.

I’ve been attending pole/dance classes at ProvocaFIT for a little over a year now and I truly could not recommend more! Shona has not only created an amazing, welcoming, and inclusive studio, but also a safe and supportive community where people of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels can come and express themselves freely.

Provocafit is a wonderful studio, perfect for beginners or anyone who has done Pole or dance before. Shona is an amazing studio owner, who really cares about creating a safe, inclusive and fun environment to dance and learn in. It is a great place to make friends, build confidence and challenge yourself! We love you Provocafit!
Amy
Shona has created the most liberating space where everyone feels included and welcomed. I couldn’t recommend a studio better than Provocafit based on just the environment alone... I’ve never had confidence with dance and learning from Shona has brought that confidence I never have gained before.

I wanted to learn something new, exciting, and challenging that would help me explore my femininity in more detail. That's why I tried pole dancing at Provocafit... Shona is the perfect coach: a natural teacher who radiates kindness, has confidence in everyone, expects a lot (much more than I thought I could do and it worked!), explains every detail in many ways, and she is funny. During the mixed ability sessions, she ensures that everyone receives the same attention and support from her. I am very grateful to be able to join Provocafit as it ticks all the boxes and more.

Provocafit is an incredibly welcoming, liberating and empowering space, and I am honoured to be able to call myself a student and part of the amazing family Shona has built here... I have been introduced and encouraged into doing incredible things that I never thought I would be able to do. My confidence has grown by a tenfold and I can still remember my first class and how attentive Shona has always been in ensuring I, and all of her students, are comfortable and able to achieve incredible things even in just one session.

I’ve been coming to provocafit pole & dance studio for a couple of months now and have never been to somewhere so welcoming, friendly and with such an unbridled sense of community and friendship. As many, I was quite nervous about going to my first pole class but Shona made me feel at ease instantly and was very encouraging. Although it was very challenging initially, I kept coming back and kept trying new classes and getting more and more involved! Now, having got to know the other students as well as the instructors, I can say that this truly is a place that encourages you to show up and celebrate YOU... (This is) I think, where the sheer joy and empowerment of pole comes from. You’re just dancing or training for yourself and the sense of achievement you get as you watch yourself grow and progress is unlike anything I’ve ever done before!
Lorna
Made me feel extremely comfortable and at ease. Brilliant instructor and couldn't ask for a better place.
Rawan
This studio has become my happy place! Not only that I’ve seen more progress in my skills than I’ve had in any other studio, Shona’s tips and encouragement and the sense of community in the studio is taking my pole experience to another level!
Laura
Absolutely love classes at provocaFIT!! Shona is an amazing, encouraging teacher and I would recommend to anyone just starting with pole.
