Solar Flair and MayPole have teamed up for a brand new creative collaboration - Drawing Dance!

In this class, our model, MayPole, will move and pose in full burlesque costume, whilst Solar Flair will facilitate your drawing practice, providing advice and guidance where it's wanted.

"Exploring movement through drawing"

Art allows you a new perspective on the world of dance. This class will allow you to take a step back from the action and appreciate the forms of the human body, capturing dance poses on paper. The focus of the class will be understanding the forms modeled during dance, allowing yourself the time to see the curves, the lines and the weight shifts in front of you. You'll be encouraged to look at the overall shapes of the model's poses, enabling you to capture the bigger picture of the position and the feel of the form as a whole.

Throughout the evening, you'll have the opportunity to draw a range of poses held for different lengths - starting with "Tease Freeze" (where MayPole will dance and hold short poses for 1-3 minutes) and building up to a final pose of 15 minutes.

Who is this for?

This session is open to anyone and everyone who wants to explore and appreciate the visuals of dance in a new way. Dancers should find this class particularly useful! It may be a new art form to you, but it will allow you the space to sit back, relax and appreciate the shapes of the model.

This class is open to complete beginners; you do not need to have any artistic experience with drawing; you simply need to be open to using drawing materials to help you see the forms and expression in movement. That being said, if you would feel more confident in joining the class with a little insight into some life drawing basics, take a look at the videos below:

What should I bring?

Please bring along paper and some form of media to draw with; this could be pens, pencils, crayons, felt tips, even an old lipstick! (we will have limited basic resources available on the day).

Feel free to bring cushions or blankets to sit on/with, as well as refreshments (water or soft drinks only and no hot food, please!)

Wear whatever you're comfortable sitting in for a little while! Dress up or down, it's entirely your call.

About the Artist & Model

The Artist - Solar Flair: After graduating with a degree in Fine Art and commencing my career as an artist, I found my love for dancing in my spare time with the Provocafit family! Bringing together my artistic background and passion for dance, be it pole, burlesque, floor or chair dance, I hope this class I've created will allow you to channel your inner artist whilst exploring the model's movement through drawing.

The Model - MayPole: MayPole is the owner & lead teacher at Provocafit Pole & Dance Studio. She is an award-winning professional burlesque performer and pole dancer who has danced on stages up and down the country. MayPole loves to mix up styles and turn classic performance on its head - invoking mixed feelings in her audiences is something she strives for! For this event, MayPole will be bringing back her Summer of Love act - a raunchy, swinging 60s-inspired performance telling the story of a lone traveller who finds love and comfort in the church... a little too passionately. The costume for this act is full of colour and interesting shapes, and each stripped layer reveals a new surprise underneath!
